GAME LAB

Video games are seen as a new form of artistic expression as well as an influential, established, high revenue industry.

 

Research on games (board games or video games) is becoming increasingly important in academic institutions.

ISART's Game Lab provides facilities for the development of computer and console games, interactive content research and applied projects (R&D) as well as innovative projects applied to various fields of application such as education, health & psychology, society, culture & heritage, military etc.

INNOVATION

TWO MAIN AXES

With a multidisciplinary and transversal approach, the Research Laboratory, directed by a Doctoral Researcher, focuses on two axes:

 

 

GAME DATA & AI (Artificial Intelligence):

applied to video games (from autonomous virtual character decision making, to the analysis of game data, to the development of
to the development of Machine-Learning tools).

 

 

Game for Human & Society:

Because video games have a role and interest beyond entertainment. It is about exploring different application areas that can give rise to projects in health, education, art, culture and entertainment...

The Game Lab favors multi-disciplinary subjects combining artistic creativity and science. It interacts closely with the Pedagogy and the students, and develops collaborations with several universities with international influence.

COLLABORATIONS

CHU NICE & UNIVERSITÉ CÔTE D'AZUR (UCA)

In collaboration with the CoBTek Lab and the CHU de Nice, the objective is to exploit video game technology for pedagogical innovation in order to improve the teaching and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical skills of medical students.

 

The first project resulted in an interactive application, TeachMod, which provides an immersive experience that allows the student to learn about ethics in a consultation between a practitioner and a patient with cognitive dysfunction.

PARIS DAUPHINE UNIVERSITY

The partnership between ISART and the Laboratoire d'Analyse et de Modélisation de Systèmes pour l'Aide à la Décision (LAMSADE) of the University of Paris Dauphine consists in developing new algorithms and learning models to automatically generate game content.

 

 

SORBONNE UNIVERSITY

The work with the Institute of Computational Science and Data (ISCD) of the Sorbonne University concerns the use of the most popular real-time video game engine "Unreal Engine" as a powerful and efficient tool for the 3D visualization of scientific data in the cultural and patrimonial fields.

SAINT-CYR COËTQUIDAN MILITARY SCHOOL

 

Collaborative projects are mainly based on AI that uses planning algorithms to control the actions and behaviors of non-player characters in games, such as enemies or virtual avatars, to increase credibility and immersion in the game.

SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

ISART's Game Lab is part of the CNRS (Conseil National de Recherche Scientifique) research group on games and AI.

 

The original and innovative research results of our Game Lab have been communicated and published in several national and international conferences such as the "French Association for Artificial Intelligence", the "2021 IEEE Conference on Games" and the "International Nicograph Congress".
